Extent The purpose of this study is to develop a bioplastic made from starch of cassava as an alternative organic material for the commercial plastic used in plastic bottles. The research aims to determine if there is significant difference with increasing cassava starch content in the bioplastic, considering the dependent variables: water uptake, tensile strength and level of biodegradability. The study followed an experimental research with increasing cassava starch content, 82%, 44%, and 55%, repectively. The produced starch is then divided into the three setups, each is then put into mixture with 59 ml of water, 15 ml of vinegar and 15 ml of glycerin. The bioplastic is then placed in a frying pan for two minutes, then exposed under the sun for three to four days. Water uptake test used ASTM D570 wherein a 24 hour immersion of the sample in distilled water is conducted at room temperature. Tensile strength test used ASTM D882-09 which is Standard Test Method for Tensile Properties of Thin Palstic Sheeting. Biodegradability test was conducted with the bioplastic smple buried in loam soil for 10 days. Results revealed that there is no significant diffirence between the gained weight percentage of the setups, increasing cassava content poses minimum effect of the water uptake. Meanwhile, there is a significant difference between the tensile strength values of the setups, thus, Setup C with the most cassava starch is the most tensile strength values of the setups, thus, Setup C with the most cassava starch is the most tensile bioplastic. Also, the results showed that there is a difference in biodegradability level of the setups, as cassava content increases, the weight loss decreases. Alongside, compared to the positive controlled corn starch based bioplastic, the cassava starch bioplastic is more tensile at 0.656 Mpa and higher decomposition rate at 66.86% weight loss, but it absorbs more water at 68.70% gained weight. This implies that cassava starch could be utilized as material for catering items like olates, cups, spoons etc. Which are required for short span of time, possess sufficient mechanical strength and after use get easily degrade.:
